SQUAD NEWS: No Panic as Morrissey Pens Reds Deal

Quorn Football Club have agreed to sign goalkeeper Lorcan Morrissey, who will dual register with step six side Ingles. The Basildon born shot-stopper, who now calls Loughborough home, will team back up with Quorn Assistant Manager Shaun Wilkes, who was his Manager at Ingles last season.

Joining his local junior club, Stones Athletic, at four years old, Morrissey joked that he ended up in goal as he “couldn’t kick the ball”. Spells in junior football with Heybridge Swifts and Hullbridge Sports, also saw him register for the first teams, playing step four football with ‘The Bridge’.

After moving to Leicestershire, Lorcan represented our near neighbours Barrow Town, before three years with Birstall United and last season with Ingles. “I’m eager to get myself back to this level of football” stated Morrissey, “I started my senior career at this level, but when I came up to University at Loughborough, football took a bit of a back seat.”

“Having achieved a 2:1 in his Maths, Accounting and Financial Management degree at Loughborough, I’m now excited at the prospect of getting back to that level of football.” After speaking with Wilkes and the rest of the coaching staff at Farley Way, Morrissey decided to take a shot at catching on with the Reds. “I’ve only been here a couple of weeks but I’ve really enjoyed the professionalism of the club and the attitude of the staff and the squad.”

Although he made his name between the sticks, Morrissey is perhaps best known for his exploits at the other end of the pitch. On the final day of last season, with Ingles needing a point to make the playoffs, and trailing in the 95th minute, the imposing keeper went up for a corner and fired his side into the top five with his last-gasp equaliser.

Welcome to Farley Way Lorcan.
