REPORT: Melton Town 2-5 Quorn

Quorn continued their winning start to preseason with a comprehensive victory at Melton Town’s Sign Right Park. Courey Grantham and Mitch White each scored a brace, with Zak Goodson getting in on the action with a well taken goal, his first for the Reds.

Melton got off to the better start, opening the scoring in the ninth minute as Quorn asked for an offside flag that never came. Kairo Edwards-John was able to round Tom Allsopp and tap in a simple finish as the Reds turned, in vain, to the Assistant. It was the first of numerous contentious decisions in a wide-open match that swung from end to end.

The goal awoke Quorn and they were level inside two minutes as Micah Jebbison flew down the right and crossed for Grantham to prod in his fourth goal in as many preseason appearances. Within a minute the Reds were ahead, with a very similar goal as Jebbison burst down the right again and played in Grantham, who unselfishly teed up Goodson for a calm finish.

There were numerous chances for Quorn to extend their lead, but an inspired performance from Bill Harrison in the Melton goal kept the score down. Shortly after the break, Grantham struck his second, a powerful strike from the edge of the box. Melton responded in the 63rd minute as Ryan Calver broke the offside trap and struck across goal into the bottom right corner.

Once again, Melton’s goal provoked an immediate response from Quorn, as within a minute the two goal lead was restored. White thundered in a powerful blast from the edge of the area for a 4-2 lead. The scoring ended with White’s second, twelve minutes from time, as he took the ball down on his chest and volleyed in his third goal of preseason.

A stiffer test awaits for Beswick’s side as they host Brackley Town on Saturday afternoon, a 3pm kick-off at Farley Way.
