SQUAD NEWS: Zach McKenzie Joins the Reds

Ryan Beswick has continued to strengthen his squad ahead of a stretch that will see his side play 11 matches in six weeks.

Zach McKenzie is latest addition as he signs on dual-registration terms with National League side Tamworth. The defender was a late starter in football, getting his sporting career going with a spell in Athletics, rising through the ranks to become one of the highest ranked participants in the long jump and triple jump within the UK during his teenage years.

However, his love for football began when he joined his school team at the age of 11, quickly progressing to the point where he was scouted by Forest Green Rovers, signing and spending four years at The New Lawn. “I made my debut for Rovers first team when I was 17” elaborated Zach. “It was the last game of the season away at Cambridge United and, for the months leading up to it, I had been on the bench a few times but hadn’t had my chance yet, so I was buzzing to finally come on.”

Born in Warwick, Zach now lives in nearby Stratford-Upon-Avon, where he works as a PE Teacher. Apart from Forest Green Rovers, Zach has had a few other clubs, Stratford Town and Cribbs, where he enjoyed loan spells, and more recently Romulus and Tamworth.

“My coach at Tamworth suggested the idea of coming to Quorn to get more men’s football under my belt. After looking into the club, it looked like a great opportunity, the team is flying and I’m excited to prove myself at this level. I don’t know anyone at the club, but obviously Ryan was Captain at Tamworth and maintains a good relationship with the club, so I’ve heard good things about him and the way the side here play.”

“It’s been a great start to the season, so I’m hoping to help the team continue to push for promotion. As an individual I’d like to work my way into playing as much as possible for the club and give a good account of myself every time I step on the pitch.”

Welcome to Farley Way Zach.
