SQUAD NEWS: Goodson Joins Reds

Quorn Football Club have confirmed the signing of exciting forward, Zak Goodson, who joins after finishing last season at Belper Town.

“I wanted to get back playing again where, hopefully, I’ll enjoy it and be back on my favoured playing surface” explained Goodson, whose most productive season came as he helped Ilkeston Town to the NPL Midlands title two years ago.

With 22 goals in 42 appearances, it was Goodson’s goals that helped propel the Robins to step three. That performance saw Goodson snapped up by National League North side Altrincham (where he also had loan spells with Boston United and Spennymoor Town) before a move to Chester.

Born in Nottingham, Zak explained how he got started in football “A few of my friends started playing football outside of school, and I just wanted to be involved, so it all started from there. Joining Woodhouse Colts Juniors, it wasn’t long until Derby County came calling. Staying with the Rams until Under 16 level, Goodson moved to Ilkeston and later Basford United.

In early 2023, Goodson came off the bench for Altrincham and scored an 89th minute equaliser in the fourth round of the FA Trophy, taking high-profile Wrexham to penalties, and knocking the Welsh side out. Alty would go on to make the semi-finals, but losing out to eventual winners Halifax Town in a penalty shootout.

“I can play anywhere along the front line, but prefer to play on the right” elaborated Goodson when asked about his favourite position. “It was great to come down on Thursday and meet the lads. They’re a great group and you can see why they did so well last season. There’s a real togetherness, they all like each other and play for each other. I’d heard good things about the club, and I’m really looking forward to getting started. I’ve won this league before, and I want to do it again with Quorn.”

Welcome to Farley Way Zak.
